Labeling Platforms

Depending on the production volume, product format and level of integration, different platform concepts are available. These range from manual applications to fully automated single and twin solutions. The twin platform can be used either to increase output through parallel operation or to flexibly process different formats on two independently operated sides.

Manual and Semi-Automatic Labeling

For development phases, clinical batches, small production runs and applications with frequent format changes, we offer compact manual and semi-automatic labeling solutions. They combine high format flexibility with integrable quality control and simple, clearly guided operation.

Benefits:

  • manual product loading
  • compact machine architecture
  • high format flexibility
  • integrable camera and code inspection
  • suitable for small production volumes
  • simple operation and cleaning
  • designed for GMP-regulated production environments

Single Labeling Platform

Up to 120 Autoinjectors per Minute

The Single Labeling Platform is designed for medium to high production outputs and, depending on the application, processes up to 120 autoinjectors per minute.

An integrated HERMA labeling system ensures precise and repeatable label application. RoboMat develops and integrates the complete product handling, infeed, quality control and line connection. Depending on the application, the platform can be equipped with a tray loader or fed directly from an upstream process.

Thanks to short format changeovers and a flexible design, the platform is suitable both for stand-alone applications with a wide range of variants and frequent product changes, and for fully integrated high-volume series production.

Depending on the product and process, the platform can handle standard, wrap-around, booklet and NFC labels. Camera-based quality control, serialization and traceability functions can also be integrated.

Highlights

  • up to 120 autoinjectors per minute
  • integrated HERMA labeling system
  • tray loader or direct line infeed
  • short format changeovers
  • standard, wrap-around, booklet and NFC labels
  • integrated quality control
  • stand-alone operation or full line integration
  • designed for GMP-regulated production environments

Twin Labeling Platform

Up to 240 Autoinjectors per Minute

The Twin Labeling Platform is based on two integrated HERMA labeling systems and, depending on the application, processes up to 240 autoinjectors per minute.

The platform can be operated in two modes. For maximum output, both labeling systems process the same product format in parallel. Alternatively, the two machine sides can be configured for different product formats. When changing products, production switches between the left and right side without first having to reconfigure the other side.

The twin concept is therefore suitable not only for maximum production output, but also for applications with a high number of variants, reduced changeover times and increased system availability.

Depending on the application, products are fed through an integrated tray loader or directly from the upstream line. For line integration, the platform can be equipped with a coordinated buffer solution.

The Twin Labeling Platform can also process standard, wrap-around, booklet and NFC labels. Camera-based quality control, serialization and traceability functions can likewise be integrated.

Highlights

  • up to 240 autoinjectors per minute
  • two integrated HERMA labeling systems
  • parallel operation for maximum output
  • two product formats on separate machine sides
  • reduced changeover times
  • high system availability
  • tray loader or direct line infeed
  • buffer solution for continuous line operation
  • integrated quality control
  • GMP-compliant design

Product Handling and Infeed

Process stability in labeling begins before the label is dispensed. Each product must be handled in a controlled manner, correctly oriented and transferred to the labeling system at a defined spacing.

For the label application itself, RoboMat integrates proven labeling systems, for example from HERMA. We develop and implement the complete automation surrounding this process, from product infeed and orientation to quality control and transfer to downstream production steps.

Depending on the system concept, products are fed manually, from trays, via puck systems or directly from an upstream production line. Singulation, orientation, buffering and controlled transfers can be integrated to ensure a stable overall process.

Sensitive products such as autoinjectors, syringes and vials are handled in a way that protects their surfaces, operating elements and pre-assembled components.

Depending on the application, the infeed and handling concept may include:

  • automatic removal and infeed of tray stacks from Euro pallets
  • automatic loading and unloading of products from trays
  • direct infeed from upstream assembly or packaging processes
  • puck systems for defined product positioning
  • conveyor technology, buffering, singulation and product spacing
  • product orientation, position inspection and gentle transfer
  • controlled downstream transfer and rejection of non-conforming products

The infeed system is not treated as an isolated add-on module, but as an integral part of the overall process. This allows the labeling platform to be used either as a stand-alone machine or fully integrated into a production or packaging line.

Quality Control

Reliable labeling does not end with the application of the label. It is essential that the product and label are inspected and clearly evaluated throughout the process, with any non-conforming products rejected in a controlled manner.

Our solutions ensure complete traceability between the product, label and inspection result throughout the entire labeling process.

Depending on the application, we integrate camera-based inspections before, during and after label application. These inspections can verify the product itself, as well as the label position, print quality and machine-readable codes.

Label Inspection

Presence, position, orientation and overlap. Defective labels are rejected before they are applied to the product.

Print and Code Inspection

Human-readable text, barcodes and Data Matrix codes.

Product Inspection

Position, orientation and product-specific features.

Non-Conforming Product Handling and Documentation

Controlled rejection of non-conforming products and transfer of inspection data to higher-level systems.

Stand-Alone or Line Integration

Our labeling platforms can be operated as stand-alone machines or fully integrated into existing production and packaging lines.

In stand-alone applications, products can be fed manually, from trays or via an integrated handling system. For direct line integration, the platform is connected to upstream and downstream processes and, where required, equipped with a coordinated buffer solution.

Depending on the application, the integration may include:

Stand-Alone Solution
Independent machine with integrated product infeed, operation, quality control and product rejection.

Direct Line Infeed
Continuous product transfer from upstream assembly, inspection or packaging processes.

Buffering and Decoupling
Coordinated buffer sections to decouple individual process steps and stabilise line operation.

Line Communication
Integration of control systems, recipe management, production data and interfaces into the higher-level line control system. This ensures continuous product transfer to the downstream machine.

Pharma-Compliant Design

Our labeling platforms are designed for GMP-regulated pharmaceutical production environments. Depending on the project, we take into account hygienic design, suitable materials and surface finishes, user management, audit trails, data integrity and the required qualification documentation.

  • Hygienic Design Cleanable machine areas and suitable materials and surface finishes.
  • User Management and Audit Trail Defined user roles and traceable operator actions.
  • Data Integrity Controlled recording and processing of relevant production and inspection data.
  • Qualification Project-specific documentation and support for DQ, IQ and OQ.
