Blister Infeed from White Boxes and Shipping Cartons

Challenges

Blisters were delivered in sealed inner boxes containing twelve units each, which were themselves packed in sealed shipping cartons of forty inner boxes. All blisters had to be removed, oriented, and placed with exact alignment onto the pockets of a conveyor indexing belt. The system required stable handling despite the multi-level packaging structure and the need for high throughput.

Our Solution

We developed a system that feeds the shipping cartons via a buffer conveyor and opens them automatically. The white boxes are removed, oriented, and opened as well. The blisters are then staged through multiple magazine shafts. A multi-gripper system picks the blisters in parallel and places them with precise orientation into the pockets of the transport indexing belt. The motion profiles and gripper kinematics were designed to ensure a stable and reproducible process even at high throughput speeds.

Special Features

The system integrates multiple unpacking and infeed stages into a continuous, high-performance process. The combination of buffer conveyor, box handling, magazine system, and multi-gripper technology enables reliable processing of large quantities. Thanks to its modular structure, the system can be adapted for additional blister variants.

Processes

  • Blister Handling

    Blister Handling

The blister handling system opens shippers and white boxes, removes complete stacks of blisters, and feeds up to 150 blisters per minute in a controlled manner onto a cycle chain. It can be flexibly adapted to different formats and processes.

  • Needle Feeder

    Needle Feeder

The Needle Feeder is an unpacking and feeding system for cardboard and inner packaging. It processes shipper boxes from pallets, separates the needle boxes, and feeds them at a rate of 300 or 400 pieces per minute with high process reliability.
